Xebec Naval A fast lateen-rigged sailing craft indigenous to the Mediterranean Sea in the XIX century.
This word, comes from the fact that only the best hands in a sailing ship were employed aloft in the rigging: the others were employed in the waist of the ship. Thus the name "waister" came to be implied reproach on a man's efficiency or experience.
