The Resolution in the Antarctic



This picture was by William Hodges. In December 1773 and January 1774 cook sailed close to the Antarctic ice cap, enabling Hodges to record meteorological and light effects never before depicted by Europeans. In this picture he recorded an iceberg and the glow in the background known as 'ice blink'.
