Shuja-ud-daula

This picture was by Tilly Kettle in 1772. Shuja-ud-daula was the Wazir of Oudh in northern India. In the court of the wazirs eastern and western cultural tastes mixed: Indians were painted by British artists, while British connoisseurs made collections of Indian miniatures and manuscripts.
