Amateur Dramatic Societies very much followed the Empire especially in the era before radio and film. It allowed people to connect with their home culture wherever they found themselves around the Empire. It also provided a rare opportunity for the respective sexes to interact in an age of relative prudishness compared to today. The picture shows the actual theatre which still stands today and still puts on shows!
