Argungu Fishing Festival

The Argungu Fishing Festival was held every year at the end of January to mark the opening of the fishing season. Three or four thousand fishermen line the banks and on the appearance of the Emire plunge into the river to fish. The picture above shows a large Niger perch being brought to the Emir to see. You can see the river behind full of fishermen.
