Balaka Station

The main train line in Nyasaland was built in the 1930s. The idea was to connect its primary producers with the train system in Rhodesia and to ports for export to the rest of the Empire and World. Balaka had a station on this route making it an ideal place to coordinate the growing and packing of cotton amongst other agricultural products. Picture courtesy of railwaywondersoftheworld.com
