Travelling by Ship in the British Empire

Fancy Dress Party

As there was a lot of spare time for those travelling by sea, the ships crew would organise all sorts of events for children and adults a like. Fancy dress parades like this one was just one of the many events that younger passengers might have enjoyed. It should be noted that on occasion families did go together to postings, although many children were also often accompanied home in order to attend boarding school or to stay with extended family members back in Britain.
