On arrival, at the school we moved into a large three-bedroom house with a sitting and dining room, bathroom, two kitchens a khonde (veranda), basic furniture and servants' quarters. However there was only a fitful supply of electricity in the evenings from the school's generator, turned off at 10 pm with paraffin Tilley lamps at the ready if one was giving a dinner party.
