How has the Empire been taught in British Schools

Empire Day

The Empire Day was instroduced into Britain in 1904 by Lord Meath. He copied the concept from Canada. The full title of this picture is "The First School Empire Day Celebration at the Medburn Street School, St Pancras, London" by Joseph William Topham Vinall. It shows that serious attempts were made to encourage schools to take on imperial themes. It became especially significant during the Second World War when help was required from the colonies. This painting is from 1944.
