Pig sticking was a very popular activity amongst soldiers stationed in India. It was a very dangerous sport to participate in, but the army encouraged the pursuit as it believed it honed the martial skills of its warriors. Inevitably it was particularly popular with cavalry regiments, but many other branches also participated in the activity.
