The Nemesis belonged to the EICs naval forces of the Bengal Marine. Her principle officers held commissions in the Royal Navy but she was not formally commissioned into the navy and was in the service of the Bengal Marine. She was armed with two 32-pounder cannons, along with fifteen lesser cannons and also rocket launchers. It was the Bengal Marine's first iron ship and would show just how powerful she was compared to the junks of the Chinese Navy during the Yangtse campaign of the Opium War. Basically, she could not be harmed by the technologically inferior ships arrayed against her.
This painting can be seen at the Williamson Art Gallery and Museum in Liverpool.
