This 1957 photograph shows a voter receiving a ballot paper from a polling assistant at Kungungu Polling Station in the Northern Territories in the first Election for Independent Ghana. The Legislative Assembly Elections in 1951, 1954 and 1956 proved useful preparation and experience for democracy.
