
This picture shows Peshawar looking towards the Khyber Pass and on to Afghanistan. The church is St. John's and the white building to the left was an officer's residence. The photograph was likely taken from the Masonic Lodge in 1878. Peshawar was made into its frontier headquarters and a sizeable cantonment was laid on this Western side of the city.
