The British Empire and its effect on Plymouth

The Douglas Lighthouse

This was the fourth and the last of the lighthouses built on the Eddystone Rocks. It is still there and you can make out the base of the old Smeaton Lighthouse next to it. This painting shows the opening of the Douglas lighthouse in 1882 and before the Smeaton tower had been moved to Plymouth Hoe.
