The British Empire and its effect on Plymouth

Mount Batten, Seige of Plymouth, Execution of a Traitor

This painting by John Seymour Lucas imagines what it was like at the battle of Mount Batten. At the early stages of the war it was under Parliamentarian control but it was captured by the Royalists. This made it too difficult for Parliamentarian ships to enter into Sutton harbour. Instead they had to head to Millbay.
