This interesting painting by Roland Pitchforth in 1942 shows how busy Plymouth Sound could be in the War Years. There are a number of ships coming in and out of the sound, there are searchlights scanning the skies and you can even see a seaplane at rest in the Sound. The picture is looking out across West Hoe towards Drake's Island. |
