WP809 Chipmunk at Roborough Airport, 1970

There is no definitive proof but there are rumours that Roborough's 'old and bold' civilian instructors (such as Stan Greenhough) landed chipmunks on HMS Eagle as it lay in the Tamar awaiting disposal from the Royal Navy. Indeed the authorities were so concerned that this was indeed happening they decided to place poles on the deck of the aircraft carrier to dissuade any would be aeronautical boarders.
