Sultan Lands at Malta


Sultan Mehmed VI was secreted out of Constantinople by the British in 1922 and taken to the safety of Malta and permanent exile. He later moved to the Italian riviera where he died in 1926. He was the last caliph and ruling Sultan of the Osmanoğlu family who had ruled over the Ottoman Turks since 1299.
