Sir Charles Orr's Memoirs Volume 3

Sarah Bernhardt (1844 - 1923)

Above shows Sarah Bernhardt as Cleopatra in the play by Sardou. She performed many of Sardou's plays so it is hard to know which one the author actually watched. She was a prolific French stage actress who starred in some of the more popular French plays of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including La Dame Aux Camelias by Alexandre Dumas fils; Ruy Blas by Victor Hugo, Fédora and La Tosca by Victorien Sardou, and L'Aiglon by Edmond Rostand.
