One of the keys to Singapore's success was its location between the huge Asian trading behomoths of India and China or more generally Southern Asia with East Asia and the Pacific. Hence the rapid expansion of the port facilities allowed larger and larger ships to refuel and take on provision before continuing their journey elsewhere into Asia.
