Tales of Colonial Policeman in Northern Rhodesia

Fritz

This was Fritz, nearest camera, his wife middle & his brother, the farmer driving, his son behind & Fritz's daughter, ready to go shooting near his farm. The group of palm trees in the background are interesting. They are quite rare & only seem to grow in little groups like that. When I asked why one of the reasons given was because many years ago the bands of Arab led slave traders used to plant these in places where there was a good camp site and as the palms grew so much higher than the native trees if there were any, they would be visible as a guide point for many miles. Useful especially in virtually treeless veldt like this!
