Whangpo River


This picture shows boats along the Whangpo River leading to Shanghai. The author uses the older spelling of Whangpo. The more modern name is now romanicised as Huangpu River. This particular photograph was taken in 1904 by Charles Darwent in his publication: Shanghai: a handbook for travellers and residents to the chief objects of interest in and around the foreign settlement and native city and is courtesy of UNIVERSITY OF BRISTOL
