John Sealing the Magna Carta 1215

This Frank Wood painting shows John being forced to agree to the terms of the Magna Carta. Originally, the rebellion of his Knights and Barons was more about protecting their own aristocratic privileges. Over time though, it has taken on a wider significance as being the launch pad for liberties that all English people have come to expect.
