Spanish Armada

This 17th Century image by Jan Luyken shows the battle of Gravelines as the English sought to disrupt the Spanish fleet as it lay in wait for the army to board her ships. The fireships can be seen in the middle-right of the picture. It gives a feel for the compactness of the fleet and the disruption that the English hoped to cause in breaking it up.
