Tent Hat c1890

There were several styles of undress folding cap for officers but the 10th Hussars had their own pattern; this Tent Hat, inspired by the undress cap worn by French and Belgian cavalrymen of the Napoleonic era. The British 8th Hussars also adopted a Tent Hat, but green and gold to reflect their Irish connection. The blue hat seen here has the wave and stand pattern of lace used on other items of 10th Hussars uniform, and a special pattern badge which is the usual Prince of Wales Plume but with long quills extending below the coronet. The cap dates from c1878, however, it is not mentioned in Dress Regulations. It can be seen in the photo of Officers in Camp 1888.
