Drumhorse, India 1911

The great Delhi Durbar was held in 1911, attended by King George V. For this special occasion the 10th Hussars had new drum banners prepared which are worn on the drumhorse in this photo. They are red, to match the shabraque and include the three battle honours for the Boer War; SOUTH AFRICA 1899-1902, RELIEF OF KIMBERLEY and PAARDEBERG. There is also a battle honour for WARBURG which was granted in 1909 retrospectively for the regiment’s action during the Seven Years War of 1756 to 1763. The symbols of the Rising Sun and Red Griffin/dragon were retained and can be seen to flank the central device. The drummer was recently promoted Corporal Pollock.
