Band Photo 1926

The band of the 10th Hussars were stationed at Aldershot in 1926 when this photo was taken. It is a poor reproduction but it is evidence that the drum banners were still the same as the ones produced in India for the Durbar in 1911. The battle honours for WW1 were added in 1927 in time for the Lord Mayor’s Show in London. The bandsmen are wearing dress tunics with scarlet forage caps. The bandmaster sits to one side of the bass drum, holding his baton. The other side of the drum sits an officer who could be the CO but he bears no resemblance to the CO at the time, Lt-Col Malise Graham. He is wearing a dress tunic that is non-regulation. It appears to have the elaborate gold braid on the sleeves for a field officer. This was discontinued in 1902. He may be the second-in-command with the rank of major. Next to him is a drummer holding drumsticks. Standing on either side of the photo are trumpeters holding silver state trumpets with banners displaying the Royal Arms.
