Malise Graham DSO


Malise Graham was born on 12 Feb 1884, the son of Sir Reginald Henry Graham, 8th Baronet, and Annie Mary Shiffner. He entered the army as second lieutenant in the 16th Lancers on 10 Oct 1903, promoted to lieutenant 23 May 1907. he was seconded to the Yorkshire Hussars as adjutant on 26 Jan 1912 but returned to the 16th Lancers for war service in 1914. He fought with the regiment in WW1 and was awarded the DSO. He reached the rank of brevet lieutenant-colonel and transferred in 1923 to the 10th Hussars to take up the appointment of commanding officer. The regiment were stationed in England throughout the period of his command up until 1928. He was then promoted to Colonel and commanded the 6th Cavalry Brigade until he was appointed Assistant Director of Remounts at the War Office. This was the last job before his death on 14 August 1929 at the age of 45. He married Cecil Lorna Barclay on 10 Aug 1915 they had a son who died at the age of 23 and a daughter who died in infancy.
