Drumhorse Cigarette Card

WD & HO Wills produced this cigarette card in a series of cavalry drumhorses at the end of the 19th century. The colouring shows a difference in the shade of red between the drum banners and the saddle cloth. The leopard skin appears to have a gold fringe like the one worn on officers’ saddles but the 1895 photo by Charleton & Son of Newbridge and Curragh, on which this is based, seems to have just a plain (blue) scalloped edge. The horse, Old Bob, is a dark bay colour.
