Benevente

Denis Dighton’s painting of the capture of General Lefèvre-Desnouettes by Private Levi Grisdall of the 10th Hussars is inaccurate in that it looks as if the event was part of the battle. But the account given in the regimental history states that this happened during the pursuit, and that the General had separated himself from the main body of the French cavalry. The painting is dated around 1820 and can be seen in the Royal Collection. Hopefully a coloured version will one day become available. The 10th Hussars uniform at that time was a blue jacket with yellow facings and white cords and lace.
