Cambré Brabazon Ponsonby


Cambré Brabazon Ponsonby was born on 14 Dec 1839, the son of Captain Thomas Henry Ponsonby and Fanny Mary Dickson. He was a great grandson of the Irish politician of the same name. He was commissioned as a cornet into the 10th Hussars on 2 Mar 1860, promoted to lieutenant 12 June 1863. He retired from the regiment on 17 April 1869. The 10th were stationed in England but moved to Ireland in 1863 then back to England in 1868. On 22 Oct 1873 he married Hon Mary Eliza Sophia Plunkett daughter of Admiral Edward Plunkett, 15th Lord Dunsany. They lived at Kilcooley, Co Tipperary and had four children, 2 girls and 2 boys. He died on 9 Dec 1884 at the age of 44.
