David Ogilvy MC, 12th Earl of Airlie


David Lyulph Gore Wolseley Ogilvy was born on 18 July 1893 in Cahir, Tipperary. He was the eldest son of David Ogilvy, 11th Earl of Airlie and Lady Mabell Gore. He was 6 years old when he inherited the title in 1900 after his father was killed in the Boer War. He was commissioned on 4 Sep 1912 and reached the rank of captain in WW1. He won the Military Cross. In July 1917 he married Lady Alexandra Coke daughter of the Earl of Leicester. They had 6 children, one of whom was Sir Angus Ogilvy who married Princess Alexandra of Kent in 1963.
