King Edward VII


King Edward VII became Colonel-in-Chief of the 10th Hussars in 1901 after he acceded to the throne on 22 January. He had been Colonel of the regiment since 18 April 1863. His first appointment as Colonel-in-Chief was the Rifle Brigade, on 3 Aug 1868. Then on 29 May 1880 he was C-in-C of the Household Cavalry. He was Colonel of several Indian Regiments as well as German, Austrian, Danish and Russian regiments.

He was born Prince Albert Edward on 9 Nov 1841, eldest son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. He married Princess Alexandra of Denmark on 10 Mar 1863 but had many mistresses. His eldest son, Prince Albert Victor served as an officer in the 10th Hussars but sadly died of pneumonia in 1892. His younger son George acceded to the throne when Edward died on 6 May 1910.
