Eustace Shearman


Eustace Robert Ambrose Shearman was born in 1875 the son of Charles and Louise Shearman of Tynemouth. He was commissioned into the 10th Hussars on 28 Sep 1895. He was promoted to lieutenant on 2 Jan 1897, captain 11 June 1901, major 12 July 1905. He fought in the Boer War and went to the Western Front in 1914. He took command of the 10th Hussars in 1914. The regiment fought at the second battle of Ypres and suffered 138 casualties, amongst whom was Lt-Col Shearman, killed at Ypres on 13 May 1915. He was buried at Vlamertinghe Military Cemetery.
