Hon Frederick William Stanley DSO


Frederick William Stanley was born on 27 May 1878, the son of Frederick Stanley, 16th Earl of Derby and Lady Constance Villiers. He was the 10th and youngest child out of two daughters and 8 sons. He was commissioned into the 10th Hussars as a 2nd Lieutenant on 16 Feb 1898, lieutenant 17 Dec 1899, captain 10 Oct 1904. He was appointed Adjutant of the Yorkshire Dragoons on 5 Feb 1903. He fought in the Boer War and was severely wounded during the relief of Kimberley. He reached the rank of lieutenant-colonel in the Lancashire Hussars. He was awarded the DSO in 1917. He was married to Alexandra Louise Elizabeth Acheson daughter of the 4th Earl of Gosford. They had a son and two daughters. Died 9 Aug 1842 aged 64.
