Klip Drift

This illustration of the 10th Hussars crossing Klip Drift by John Charlton was reproduced in Louis Creswicke’s contemporary history, South Africa and the Transvaal War. It is based on a sketch by the war artist Godfrey Giles who had a special interest in the 10th Hussars. The Modder River was in fact very wide so this scene probably depicts the hussars crossing a spruit tributary.
