| The seated figure on the right, in pale khaki uniform is Brigadier-General Hugh Gough VC, commander of the cavalry brigade in the Kurram Valley Field Force in 1878. Standing beside him on the extreme right is his brigade major, Lieutenant J P Brabazon, wearing the uniform of the 10th Hussars. After the storming of Peiwar Kotal on 2 Dec 1878 he was especially mentioned in despatches. |
