Sergeant Morgan

Sergeant Morgan died of peritonitis at Rawalpindi on 9 Sep 1909. He was admitted to hospital on the 8 Sep and died in the evening of the next day. He was buried in the Garrison Cemetery and his funeral was attended by the rest of the regiment as well as men of the Sussex Regiment, Royal Artillery and others. The band of the 10th Hussars was not in Rawalpindi at that time so the funeral music was supplied by the band of the 36th Sikhs.

Sergeant Morgan came from Worcestershire and ran a business there. But he gave that up and enlisted into the 10th Hussars at Evesham on 22 Aug 1898. He fought with the regiment throughout the Boer War and did not take leave until 1906. In that year he returned to his home town and met his future wife, bringing her back to India. This information comes from the obituary published in the 10th Hussars Gazette of October 1909. Unfortunately Sgt Morgan’s first name is not mentioned, nor the name of his wife.
