Private Thomas Bowkett

Thomas Bowkett was born in Worcestershire on 8 Sep 1840. He joined the 10th Hussars in 1858 while the regiment was stationed at North Camp, Aldershot. This photo, taken in 1908, was published in the Regimental Gazette in 1930. The caption announced that he recently celebrated his 90th birthday with his relatives in Banbury. After leaving the regiment, Tom Bowkett worked as butler to Colonel Molyneux at Bodicote near Banbury, where he lived for 50 years. There is no information about his time as a 10th Hussars except that he was awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct medal. The final paragraph says: His hobby has always been gardening, and while at Bodicote he indulged his hobby to the full.
