The Battle of Waterloo

This detail is from Denis Dighton’s panoramic painting of the Battle of Waterloo. The hussars with red shakos are the 10th. The figure on the left with raised sword is an officer, about to strike a French lancer, one of the famous Red Lancers, the 2nd Lancers of the Imperial Guard. On the right can be seen the figure of Lord Uxbridge who commanded the cavalry until he lost his leg from a cannon shell. The painting hangs in the Military Museum at Plas Newydd, Anglesey.
