Prince of Wales’s Jacket 1805

The elaborate silver braiding on this jacket probably reflects the high rank held by the Prince of Wales. The collar is well covered by the braid as well as the sleeves. There are 5 vertical rows of buttons on this and the jacket in the Beechey portrait. The whole look of the jacket is certainly more decorative than the one worn in the portrait of 1798 and the revised version of 1803. It is not clear if all the officers had such an expensive uniform.
