Captain Frederick Joseph Darby


Frederick Joseph Derby was gazetted as a cornet in the 10th Light Dragoons in 1803, promoted to lieutenant in 1804 and captain in 1806. He served with the regiment in the Peninsula but died of exhaustion along with 17 troopers in the retreat to Corunna. This caricature watercolour was painted by Robert Dighton c1804.
