Officers' Stirrup Slides, pre 1901

Officer's horse furniture was decorated with ornaments of special regimental pattern. These stirrup slides were put on the straps just above the stirrup to hold them together for a smarter effect. These slides look as if they are made of brass with white metal badges, although officers usually had gilt and silver items. The crown is the Imperial crown which was a feature of the three cavalry regiments descended from Indian units. This dates them as Victorian although their exact age is not clear.
