Dighton's Officer (by Sumner) 1808

Percy Sumner made a coloured copy of Robert Dighton's officer of the 20th Light Dragoons. The figure stands on the left of the picture of cavalry officers in 1808 in the Royal Collection (see photo). The question of the grey uniform has already been mentioned at length in the caption to Brennen's copy of the same figure. Whereas Brennen changed the colour of the jacket to blue, Sumner has painted it grey as in the original. Both Brennen and Sumner were working from black and white photos of the painting, not having access to the original, so would have relied on descriptions.
