Badge 1903-1921

In 1903 the title of the regiment was changed from the 2nd Madras Lancers to the 27th Light Cavalry so that the distinctions of the Presidencies were removed and the new Indian order of precedence as organised by Kitchener came into being. The badge would have been worn by officers on their forage caps. Other Ranks had pagris which did not have a badge. The crown is the King’s Crown adopted generally after 1902. Although the title of Lancers was dropped the crossed lances still appeared on the badge.
