Risaldar-Major Ali Muhammed Khan’s third and final visit to England in 1903, as one of the King's Orderly Officers, shows a few differences to the uniform of the 2nd Bengal Lancers from the 1897 photo. The sleeve decoration is now more prominent, revealing two Bengal knots above his white gauntlets. The gold lace either side of the three main buttons down the front is decorated with braid circlets. What is not easily explained is the style of his shoulder straps which have replaced the steel shoulder chains. He has blue cloth straps that are edged with gold braid, studded with his rank stars, three on each shoulder. The gold cord aiguillette on his right shoulder indicates his appointment to a staff job.
His sword is a three-bar hilt cavalry sword in a black leather and brass scabbard which is slotted into a frog suspended from his waist-belt. The sword knot is plain gold. He has two medals for the campaign in Egypt in 1882, and another medal, probably Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee medal of 1897.
