This page is taken from a Bosley catalogue of 12 Dec 2001. The lungi is spread out, showing the actual width of the cloth which was folded longways to make it narrow enough to wind around the head and fall at the back of the wearer. The pattern was special to the 2nd Bengal Lancers. The back of the material is lined with dark blue cloth. The edging, in the foreground, is described as fine twist gold tassels.
The other item of the 2nd BL is the mess jacket and waistcoat. This is undated in the catalogue and the auctioneers have put post-WW1 miniature medals on the chest which would lead us to believe that the jacket is that of the amalgamated 2nd BL and 4th Cavalry. But the medals do not belong to the original owner of the jacket, they are the medals of Colonel Chance of the Royal Artillery. The waistcoat differs from the 1901 tailor’s pattern reproduced elsewhere on this page, in that the gold braid is much simplified.
