The dress uniform of the 1st Bombay Lancers changed around the period of 1880 to 1883. The cavalry grey gave way to green uniforms that characterised the Bombay army in the latter part of the 19th century. The 1st and 3rd Regiments had scarlet facings and the 2nd Bombay Cavalry had white. The gold lace on the sleeve varied in width according to the rank. Shoulder chains were worn, showing rank badges, and the pouch-belt was brown leather with silver chain borders. A red kummerband was worn beneath the brown leather waistbelt which supported a sword but no sabretache. The colour of the breeches is described as Multani muttee, worn with black knee boots.
