British Empire Title

31st Duke of Connaught’s Own Lancers

Bombay Cavalryman 1817

This illustration was published in the Cavalry Journal of 1926 to accompany the article by Colonel Campbell-Ross. The details are unclear but the mounted man is armed with a lance and has a shield on his back. He does not appear to wear military uniform, but the East India Register of 1820 says that the uniform was red with white facings, gold lace for the 1st Regiment and silver for the 2nd. This description probably applies only to the British officers.
