The name of the artist is not known but the quality of the artwork is such that the sett of the kilt and plaid shows up as accurate and clearer than any contemporary photo is able to do. Despite the wild setting this officer is dressed for parade, with boots and white spats, or gaiters. He has a crimson sash on his left shoulder and his plaid hangs down the back with the smaller part at the front. His broadsword is hooked up so that the scabbard does not drag on the ground.
